Enough Money For College? Tired
Of Making Minimum Wage In A Boring Retail Job?
Start A Rewarding And Interesting Career Today
Learn Why I Chose The Rainier Institute
of Technology To Become A Dental Assistant
My
name is Cathy and I am 20 years old. I just graduated high school
two years ago and started working right away. I grabbed the first
job I could as a cashier at a retail clothing store about 10 minutes
away from my parent’s house. Working in retail was not going
to get me the life I wanted for myself. I was being paid minimum
wage and because I had no college education, there was very little
room for advancement.
Going to college has been out of the question for me. Education
is important but neither my family nor I could afford the amazingly
high cost of tuition and living expenses that it would take for
a college education. I did not even have enough money to move out
on my own. This was not the life I had imagined for myself.
My dream job would be a job that had a variety of tasks and professional
responsibility. It would be a job that I could get without years
of expensive education. It would also be a job that would allow
me to make enough money to move out on my own and start my life
the way I have always wanted.
I knew I needed some form of education to find a future for myself.
I started researching several vocational programs for several different
occupations. The problem was that some of the programs took a year
or more to complete and cost nearly as much as college.
That is when I discovered the Rainier Institute of Technology.
Their dental assistant program fit my situation.
The entire course is only 10 weeks long, not 10 months. That means
I would be fully trained for the job I want in about 3 months. I
can be finished with my lame retail job before the year is over!
The Rainier Institute of Technology has made their dental assistant
program affordable. I could pay for it with money I had saved up
myself. I did not even have to ask my parents to cover the cost
of tuition. If I had gone to college, the money I spent would have
paid for only a few classes.
I was able to keep my retail job while I was attending classes
at the Rainier Institute of Technology. I could keep my normal schedule
and still attend my classes. This helped me improve my life without
jeopardizing my current source of income. My mom always said, “Don’t
quit your job until you find a new one.”
All I needed to enroll was a high school diploma and a great attitude.
No background in medicine or dentistry was required for me to be
accepted into their dental assistant program.
Becoming a dental assistant appealed to me. As a dental assistant
I get to perform a wide variety of tasks like assisting the doctor
during treatment, develop X-rays, teach patients about how they
can properly care for their teeth, take impressions and create casts
of patient’s teeth, perform office management tasks and maintain
a sterile medical level environment.
One of the best things is that after I graduated from the Rainier
Institute of Technology I discovered that dental assistants are
in high demand in a wide range of dental professions. I have seen
job openings with solo dental practices, group dental practices,
public health dentistry such as community schools and clinics, hospital
dental clinics, and dental school clinics to name a few.
Needless to say, I found a job that fits me perfectly. Now I live
on my own and can support my lifestyle. I feel like I have a future
in a profession that is always expanding.
